I'm on a very low income and I'm supporting my family. Both my partner and I are on a low income and we find it hard to make ends meet at the end of the month. We have no qualifications but we are damn determined to make money and know that you don't need a college degree to get ahead. I saw some of the threads on this site and everyone seems friendly so I wanted to chime in with anyone who wants to share ideas on how to earn more money. At the moment we both earn $1500 in total per month and I wanted to know if its possible to boost my income to 5000 dollars. I'm not scared of hard work and I am really motivated to get ahead. I don't want a handout but I want to be pointed in the right direction.

I really like your enthusiasm, its actually really infectious LOL. I'd like to make a suggestion which might seem defensive but it could give you a automatic 25% rise in your real income. You need to ask yourself if you're on the best possible deal for every expenditure in your family. Do you shop in the cheapest supermarkets? by using discount brokers and coupons you could save 25% across everything. Also are you on the cheapest energy tariff? Do you have the cheapest life insurance? Also do you have the cheapest cell plan? Just by comparing prices for everything you spend on you could save 25%. For every purchase I make I try to get at least 25% more for my money or I look for a deal where I can save 25%. Just by taking this step your expenses should fall from $1500 to $1125. Seriously, channel your motivation and see how much you could save.

I admire your enthusiasm. Most people would just resign to poverty and scrounge off the government.
Have you thought about earning cashback when you spend money. Most savvy consumers use cashback credit cards and cash back sites to make more money. If you spend $1500 per month then thats $18,000 dollars per year. If you can find a cash back credit card that offers 3% on spending then you could make an extra $540 dollars per year. This is a serious no-brainer. I've been using cashback credit cards and cashback sites to earn on average $1000 dollars per year and I also spend to earn air miles which I use to go off on random holidays. You should seriously consider using this strategy to bolster your income.

You have not specified if you have any savings. If you do have savings you need to make it work as hard as possible. Interest rates are at an all time low and more people are looking for other ways to get a better return. You could earn anything between 5% and 7% if you invest your money in peer to peer lending using sites such as finding circle, lending club and many others. Suppose you have $10,000 in savings for a rainy day and you buy loan notes for 7% you could earn $700 per year which could go towards your passive income.

I love the concept of passive income and I invest any excess money I have in investments that pay income. The way I see it is as follows. The more money I use to invest the more money I will get in return. When my monthly expenses are met with the income from my investments I would be financially free.

I feel for you. I know a few families who are on a low income and find it extremely hard to make ends meet. Sometimes they even resort to taking out payday loans which further compounds their problems.

My idea is simple. You need to ensure that you're claiming everything that you're eligible for from the government. If you're on a low income you should be eligible for the following

    - Rental assistance
    - Food Stamps
    - Energy Assistance
    - Weatherization Subsidies
    - Free cell phones

If you can take advantage of all these welfare benefits and subsidies you could make a significant saving on your income. Some people might think of this tip as scrounging off the government however if you've paid your taxes you are entitled to this help so you may as well take advantage of it.

Not sure if you've heard of a concept called Stoozing using credit cards. This strategy has helped me to save a lot of money and improve my credit score at the same time, this has helped me to get superior products for in terms of preferential rates on your mortgage. I was on 4.7% and later managed to get on 3.47% which amounted to a saving of $300 per month.

Stoozing is basically applying for credit cards which have a zero percent interest rate on spending. The strategy is to use the credit card for your spending and then only pay off the minimum amount every month. You then need to put your earnings into a high interest or high profit savings account and watch the savings grow. When the zero percent interest rate expires you can use your savings to pay off your credit card balance and anything that remains is just profit. You need to be disciplined when you spend the money on your card. If you have a budget of 1500 dollars then try spending $1100 dollars and save your entire $1500 monthly income in a high savings account. Every month your personal finance will improve and you will dig yourself out of hardship in no time.
