I've got five kids and I spend a significant amount of money buying clothes for school. I was wondering whether anyone knows of any charities that help with school uniforms. I don't mind used clothes and am happy to contribute a small amount of money. If I could just save some money on the school uniforms I could save enough money for an emergency fund so I could avoid getting into debt. Really looking forward to some suggestions. Thanks

Hey Barking1967, the first thing that I did when I was struggling financially was to contact the school and make an appointment with the resources manager. I explained our financial difficulties and requested financial assistance in the form of free school meals, free school equipment, and free school uniforms for all my children. Most schools have a discretionary fund or have good links with charities. The resources manager was able to get me some used school equipment, school uniforms and even food parcels that I could use at home. Any money that I saved was set aside for emergencies. I am now far better off than I was 6 months ago. Don't be afraid to ask for help.
  3. I'm sorry to hear about your financial troubles. If you're looking for charities that help with school uniforms you need to check out your local charities. Get organized and in the mood to save money, make a list of all the charities in your area and then contact them one by one explaining that you're in financial difficulties. Ask them for any help towards school equipment, uniforms,

If you've got five kids then try handing school uniforms down and try yo repair the uniform as much as you can. If the stitching has come off then quickly do it up again, try to make the clothes last as long as possible. Explain your troubles to your children and make them care for their clothes, you'll find that they last much longer. In terms of charities try Salvation Army, YMCA and other local charities. Your best option is to ask the school for help. I hope everything works out.

I usually buy the material and just make the clothes, if you want to save money then you need to buy a sewing machine. Every time something falls apart you can fix it, you can also practice making your own clothes. I've made white shirts, black trousers and I'm even attempting blue jumpers. Seriously this will save so much money.

You should definitely ask your school for help, I was surprised how helpful they were towards me when I was experiencing financial hardship. I was able to talk to the school counselor and they offered me free uniforms, free school meals and even free books and equipment, I was really taken back by all the support they offered me.

Have you tried contacting big supermarkets and asking them for help. I know a relative in the UK who was able to get all her uniform for free after she contacted Asda and explained that she was having hardship and needed help to send her children to school. The supermarket offered two sets of uniform and all the stationary that she would need. Most of the time back to school stuff if thrown away until the next year so it's worth a try.
