Fantastic thread idea. I agree, Christmas is a happy time but not for all. If we can all do our bit to make everyone's Christmas happy the world would be such a great place. I have no doubt that this thread will take off. Great work. I would like to make a contribution with my favourite charity which is the Salvation Army.

Salvation Army Christmas Assistance

One of the most active charities during Christmas is the Salvation Army. If you're on a low income and need money for Christmas then the Salvation Army can help you. You can make a donation direct to the charity through the website if you want to support the Salvation Army during Christmas. If you're on a low income, have a needy family, don't have a job or can't make ends meet during Christmas despite your best efforts you should contact the Salvation Army for help.

As Christmas comes round the corner the corner the Salvation Army volunteers come out in a gallant effort to make people's lives better. The volunteers collect money and then the charity distributes the money through holiday gifts, soup kitchens and pantries. To get started find your local Salvation Army. You can do this by visiting the website and finding all the locations within your state. Once you find your local Salvation Army you need to reach out and explain your situation. The Salvation Army will come up with a solution and give you a fair share of what they have to make your Christmas the best it can possibly be. This thread is a great idea @admin and the timing is just perfect with more than 50 days to go before the big Christmas celebrations. Toys for Tots

Toys for Tots is a incredibly Toy Program from the US Marine Corps. The mission of the charity is to collect new unwrapped toys during the months leading up to Christmas and then distribute these toys as gifts to less fortunate Children in the community. The number one goal is to deliver NEW toys which are unwrapped so the charity can deliver a message of hope to make less fortunate kids more patriotic and responsible adults when they grow up. One Charity that I've found is Family Giving Tree which has a vision to make every child feel like a valuable part of the community by instilling belief through the power of Giving. The mission for this charity is to fulfill exact holiday wishes especially during Christmas as well as providing backpacks filled with school supplies to children in needy communities. Family Giving Tree began in 1990 as a San Jose University MBA Project and has gone from providing 300 children holiday gifts in 1990 to over 900,000 in 2013 which is just amazing. I live in Birmingham and I see a lot of poverty and distress in the community especially during the Christmas holidays. I live in the Clark County region of Nevada which has some shocking poverty levels. There are a number of organizations run as non profits to help low income families and individuals who are experiencing hardship during Christmas and Thanksgiving. Seniors and single parents are also eligible for assistance and what's really good about these programs is senior citizens are given some sort of companionship to make them happy.

This is a great program run in Las Vegas where you can apply to be adopted during the holiday season. I live in the Atlanta area and wanted to chime in with a few Christmas assistance program which have really helped me in the past when I was desperate for help and money.

Help is available for low income families, needy children, elderly, disabled and homeless. The programs offer free trees, free gifts and free food as well as food baskets during the holiday reason. Some of the counties which are included are Walton Georgia, Rockdale, Newton, Forsyth, Cherokee and DeKalb. If you're in the Atlanta region its definitely worth checking out. There are a lot of non profit organizations which help low income families, needy children, elderly and the disabled.
