Christmas assistance for homeless people

I've been homeless during the Christmas period and it was the worst time of my life. I wanted to start this thread to help homeless people who are lonely and isolated during Christmas. I just wanted to say that I was myself homeless but managed to find myself a home, job and friends so it is possible. However hopeless your situation might be there is way to get financial assistance during Christmas and find a place to stay. I will be updating this thread leading up to Christmas and I hope members of the Find Some Money community can chime in from time to time with resources to help homeless people during Christmas.

The first place to start is to visit local homeless assistance agencies which offer shelter and food. Once you're back on your feet they offer services such as housing counselling and job skill programs. You must reach out the these Local Homeless Assistance Agencies and ask for help. Your life will almost immediately get better once you seek assistance. I have created a list of resources along with links to the site to help. Remember to reach out to these agencies quickly and you might be in a shelter or home in time for Christmas.

Homeless Assistance Program in YOUR State : Find out about all the housing shelter programs in your State

Housing Counselor : Find a housing counselor to speak to so you can get the advice needed to get into shelter.

As a homeless person you could get help with food and hunger. No person in this world deserves to go hungry especially when there's more than enough food to go around. Visit the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to apply for food stamps. You can also find a list of all the Food Banks in your area using the following link.

One of the main causes of homelessness during Christmas is drug and alcohol related problems. I have seen first hand how drugs and alcohol misuse can destroy a person's life. It's hard to watch people destroy themselves especially when you care about them so much. Bravo to @Father_Nature for started this thread.

I have done a little research on homelessness and came across two great sites which have fantastic resources for homeless people during Christmas.

Drug & Alcohol Resources for Homeless People: The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Website has invaluable resources on cleaning up these dirty habits.

Homelessness Resource Center: This site has all the resources you will need to find out more about homelessness during Christmas and what you can do about it. If you use this site properly you will end up in shelter or in a home and eventually get a steady job.

If you're not yet homeless and facing the possibility of foreclosure then you'll be glad to know there is help available. The current government administration has a number of homeowner assistance program for people who are struggling with their mortgages. All these programs are administrated through The Department of Housing and Urban Development as well as the US Treasury department.

Some of the programs on offer include the Making Home Affordable Program where homeowners get to lower their mortgage payments through lower interest rates. Other programs include the HAMP (Home Affordable Modification Program). There are also programs available for underwater mortgages as well as unemployed homeowners. Very useful thread, this will help people who are homeless during Christmas. I wanted to contribute my bit too so hear goes. If you're homeless at this moment in time check out the Office of Special Needs Program (SNAPS). This office has a commitment throughout the USA to end homelessness by funding non profits and local government offices. SNAPS helps homeless people to become self sufficient.

The office offers a program called Continuum of Care which funds local networks which are incredibly mobile and nimble. These organizations quickly rehouse individuals so they have minimum exposure to trauma and dislocation. Check out the following link to find out more - Continuum of Care Program.
