I'm looking for credit repair companies with no upfront fees. I have poor credit and its time I did something about it. My bad credit record is due to missed payments but I have not defaulted on the debt and I do not have any delinquencies. A friend of mine recommended credit repair companies and I wanted to know if anyone had any personal experiences with these companies who claim to repair credit with no upfront fees.

Credit repair companies wont be able to wave a wand and improve your credit score. These companies will advise you to do things you should already be doing. The only reputable credit repair company I know is Credit RX America, they have no set up fees, no upfront fees, no monthly fees, and no hidden fees. The process is you sign up and get a credit report. A detailed audit is done and then credit file items are deleted or corrected to make a positive impact on your credit score.

What you should do is get a copy of your credit report yourself and then go through it thoroughly. You need to dispute any items which should not be there and correct items which are wrong. Credit RX America claim to get results otherwise you don't pay. The credit repair company might make small changes which partially improve your credit score and then might charge you for the increase.

Credit RX America charge up to 100 dollars to have information corrected or removed. Instead of paying these credit repair companies you could do this yourself. As @Tiplady says, just get a copy of your credit report and then do the following

    1. Go through your credit report thoroughly
    2. Highlight all incorrect details
    3. Contact the credit companies to have this information removed
    4. Follow up until its reflected on your credit score
