I love to travel and I like it even more when its free. Is there any way I could get free airmiles or are there any tricks that I could use to maximize my airmiles? I am planning a big getaway and I'm trying to be as frugal as possible when it comes to travel, any suggestions would be appreciated!

If you like to travel then who wouldn’t you like to travel for free? There are many ways you can travel for nothing and one of them is using air miles. Many people ask how to get free air miles and go to destinations of their choice. Most air miles are accumulated through using your credit cards and if you can utilise some of the methods outlined here then you can really start travelling and enjoying yourself.

The first thing you have to do is get an airmiles credit card. Apply for the one that gives you the most miles for your money. Currently some credit cards give 1 mile for every £10 you spend which is quite good to begin with. Once you have received your credit card you need to find out if the offer applies to purchases or balance transfers. Normally it only applies to purchases so everything you spend money on you get to accumulate travel miles.

Now to get airmiles for free you need to do all your normal shopping on your credit card. If you are going to spend money then you have to do it on this specific card. Do not go overboard and overspend, keep to your normal spending habits and always spend your money responsibly. The trick is to accumulate as many travel credits as you possibly can and then when you receive the bill you pay it off all at once with the money you would have used to do your normal shopping. Now if you spend £1000 per month on your normal shopping and you receive one mile for every £10 then you can expect to receive 100 miles. If you can continue this for a year then you will have 1000 miles to enjoy.

Most credit cards offer one mile for every £10 you spend as an introductory offer however it usually reverts back to £100 instead of £10. What you need to do is accumulate as much as you can during the introductory phase while spending responsibly on essential items and then pay it off before you are charged interest. This way you can get your travel mileage for free without paying any interest.

Going forward once you have increased your credit card limit you can put as many things as you can on the credit card. You can use it to pay your insurance, mortgage and even your household bills and grocery shopping. If you can get others to help you spend on the credit card and then pay it off then you can accumulate even more mileage. Make sure the person you spend for is responsible and always ensure that they pay on time to avoid any nasty bills.

Overall the best way to utilise this strategy is to spend frugally and responsibly as much as you can during the introductory offer. Make sure the items you spend on are essential and are needed. Try to use the credit card to buy essential items on bulk and then pay it off straightaway to prevent any interest charges. Once you have accumulated as much as you possibly can you need to put all your expenses on your credit card including your mortgage and insurance, this way you will continually be earning miles and be able to travel wherever and whenever you want.
