I have 1000 dollars to invest - need help investing my money

I have 1000 dollars to invest for the first time in my life. I've been working hard and have paid off my debt and established a 2000 dollar emergency fund. Things are definitely looking up. I even have 1000 dollars to spare and need help investing the money. I don't have any experience investing money so would appreciate some ideas. Thanks

Excellent progress @Tiplady. Its great that you've paid off your debt and have a emergency fund. Before you invest your 1000 dollars you need to decide what you want from the money, how long you plan to invest the 1000 dollars and what your tolerance to risk is. Once you answer these questions you will get a more accurate investment option.

I want to invest the money over the long run. I want income from the investment and for it tog grow. I don't want to take too much risk. I would be spooked if the investment went down by more than 10 to 20%. Hope you can give me some ideas.

If you invest the money over the long run you might want to consider the stock market. The stock market has gone up and down but the overall trend is upwards. If you look at the Dow Jones Chart over the last 100 years you will see phenomenal growth.

If you want to get income from your investment you need to choose a fund or stock which pays dividends. I personally invest in dividend kings and aristocrat stocks because they have a track record of increasing dividends every year. Stocks like McDonald's and Johnson & Johnson are some of the quality stocks you should consider.
