Is it possible to negotiate credit card debt? - cannot make minimum payment

Is it possible to negotiate credit card debt? I have finally admitted that I'm in financial trouble. I can no longer make the minimum payments on all of my credit card debt. My disposable income will only cover half the monthly minimum payment required. I have made extreme cutbacks to pay the debt off but I can no longer afford it. My debt is driving me crazy, I cant sleep and I always feel anxious and depressed. I need a way out of this debt hell hole. I was doing some research online and found people with debt who could no longer afford payments have their balance reduced. So what I need to know is it possible to negotiate credit card debt. I want to be able to freeze interest so I can pay back the debt. Also is there any way to negotiate the credit balance? Some people have reduced their debt by 70% on medical grounds. Please help!

A credit card company encourages borrowers to contact them if they are facing financial hardship through no fault of their own. If you can no longer make payments fill out a income and expenses for and provide this to all of your creditors. Show them the amount of surplus income you have and then divide them among your creditors on a prorate basis. Contact all creditors and ask them to freeze interest until you can shore up your finances. Most credit card companies will comply and give you 6 months interest free, this might be recorded on your credit file though..
