Renegotiating Health Bills

A few years ago I experienced a trip to the hospital at a time when I was without health insurance. Anyone in the U.S. knows you don't want to do that. Fortunately I was able to pay things off, but a few people had told me that you can actually negotiate these things a lot of times if you can't pay the amount. Collections are difficult for hospitals when people don't have insurance so they'll often settle for a percentage of the amount. So keep that in mind in the unfortunate event that it comes up.
