  1. Hello! I'm a high school senior in NYC currently working on finding a way to pay for my tuition at University College Dublin. I know it's pretty late in the game, but I'm hoping there's something out there! If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. My only dream as of now is studying in Europe (completely, not just for a semester - I plan on getting my Bachelors out there!) and I can only make that dream come true if I can pay for it. At this point I'm desperate - my parents are both Polish immigrants and unfortunately my dad doesn't have a well enough paying job to send me without any outside financial help while my mother stays unemployed. FAFSA hasn't been much help and the school offered a scholarship for their US students but it was only open to accepted students and I unluckily got notice of my acceptance after the deadline had passed. As everyone else, I'm looking to stay away from loans so please any scholarship or grant information would be the most helpful. Thank you in advance!!

Welcome, @Nicole Allison, and thanks for participating!

You may have already seen it, but this site appears to have various links to different sites that provide scholarships or grant resources for studying abroad, so you might want to start here if you haven't seen it: https://www.nafsa.org/Explore_Inter...S__Study_Abroad_Scholarships_and_Grants_List/ .

Also, if you can't go to University College Dublin right away, another option might be to go to a different University in the states and then work with the counselors and international program personnel (most colleges will have this) to get there that way. Either way, best of luck and please feel free to update the forum with any useful information you find.

@Gorcey makes a good point. You could even enroll in a community college like CUNY and see what programs they offer to study abroad.

Your best bet is to contact:

    Kate O’Hanlon
International Student Scholarships & Funding Coordinator
    UCD International Office
    Gerard Manley Hopkins Centre
    UCD, Belfield, Dublin 4
    Email:kate.ohanlon@ucd.ie

It appears applications are closed for 2014/15, but you should also contact

    Molly Dineen
    North America Office manager
    Tel: +1 646 632 3781
    Fax:+1-212-308-2799
    Skype: UCDublin_NAmerica
    Twitter: @UCD_NAmericaEmail: Molly.Dineen@ucd.ie

If you are of Irish heritage then you might find an organization willing to sponsor you. I would contact Molly first because she deals with US directly.

You might also want to contact these NYC groups, who might be able to provide info as well.

It never hurts to network in situations like this.

    @Nicole Allison Welcome.

Have you checked the George J. Mitchell scholarship program which is a competitive scholarship sponsored by the UR-Ireland alliance. This scholarship is named after George Mitchell who made a significant contribution to the Northern Ireland peace process. The scholarship promotes intellectual achievement, leadership, commitment to community and public service. There are 12 scholars between 18 and 30 which are chosen annually and are judged on educational achievement, leadership, and sustained commitment to public service.
