Please, I need you all to get the word out but also help my family to the best of your abilities if you can.

My name is Nella and I live in Chicago with my sister Alena. We have been going through a very sad a difficult time dealing with my aunt's illness for the past almost one year. Our aunt is like our mom, she was the one who took care of us at home when we were still kids in Africa, more than our own mom; she is the sweetest aunt one could ever ask.

One year ago she began to feel very sick. She went to a low-cost clinic because she didn't have enough money, and they misdiagnosed her. She was taking the medications she had been prescribed but it wasn't helping her at all, she was actually getting worse by the day at one point. For a long time, she suffered in silence, and when she couldn't bear the pain any longer she told our mom.

From that moment we tried to rally any and everyone we could think of to help with the hospital expenses. She was able to go to a better hospital. unfortunately, the diagnosis wasn't the good news we thought we would get after she got a better treatment; the doctor told her she has stage 3 stomach cancer.

It has been devastating, to say the least. Especially that this is another huge blow to my aunt. She has had so many misfortunes in life, she has had a very sad life. She was abused by her husband for 20 years; she finally escaped him after she was savagely beaten and left her in a coma for days. Also, 3 of her 4 children died in car accident 4 years ago. Now this.

Family and friends have helped a bit; but it is still not enough, we are short of $6500 for her surgery and treatments.

My sister and I have been actively looking for ways to help our aunt. We even began asking random people for help, but then this man who could have helped us said to us he didn't like the fact we are blacks. We were hurt by that remark and we almost gave up but then we remember it is not for us, it's for our aunt, and if we don't do this for her, no one else will. But based on that experience we understand we need more support to help us reach our goal, especially that my aunt is running out of time. The doctor said to act fast or it will be too late.
