    Are there any programs where I can get a free cell phone (nothing fancy) and free calls for free? I'm on a very low income and have a very large family. My contract is coming to an end and it looks like I wont be able to afford a new contract. Can anyone advise?

    I think you'r referring to the Safe link Wireless Government initiative where you can get a free cell phone and minutes if you participate in programs such as food stamps or medicaid. You can get a free cell phone and 1000 tests and 250 minutes per month for free, there is an income eligibility test however if you're on Medicaid or Food Stamps you're sure to be approved for the free contract. This program is only eligible per household. The details are given below.

    You should also try the Assurance Wireless Lifeline Assistance Program.

    With this program you are entitled to 250 minutes which is automatically added to your contract on a rolling basis. You can also add credit to your phone if the minutes run out, you can choose from $5, $10 or $20. You can use PayPal to buy the Virgin Mobile topups as and when you need to from Stores all over the country.

    The Assurance Program is an assistance program offered through Virgin Mobile and is headed by the Federal Universal Service Fund. You can check this link to see if you qualify. Do You Qualify for Free Cell Phone
