I have a very large family to feed and was wondering where I can get free food for low income families. At the moment I am the only person with a full time income after my husband got laid off work. We are now struggling with rent, food, utility bills and it's becoming harder to stretch your income. If I could get some help with my grocery bills I would have the chance to get myself out of trouble. I really don't want to borrow money or get payday bills, we really don't have anything that we can sell. A lot of my friends have recommended that I find information on the internet but working two jobs I don't have the time. If anyone can offer me some concise information that I could put into action quickly I would be grateful.

You should have a local Food Bank nearby, you can check to find you local food bank at Feeding America. All you have to do is enter you zip code and the food bank locator find the nearest charitable organization which helps low income needy families with food. Another nonprofit organization which is similar to Feeding America is Food Pantries. You can search for local food pantries in your area, you can also search for pantries by state. Currently there are over 5000 food pantries all over the country so you can pick one that's closest to you. You can get staple items such as butter, bread, eggs, pasta, coffee and sometimes you might even be able to get a warm meal. Good luck and I really hope everything works out for you.

More and more Americans are now becoming dependent on Food Pantries which is quite worrying, being the richest and most powerful nation amounts to nothing if the people cant feed themselves. This video really made me think how lucky I am.

The Global Food Banking Network is very similar to Feeding America, I thought it was worth mentioning if someone visited this thread from abroad. You can pick your country and then find the nearest local food bank or food pantry that's available.

If you need food urgently then try calling 211 on your phone, I read somewhere on the internet that it's similar to calling 911 but it's dedicated to finding the service you want. If you don't have internet access then call then number and ask for the nearest Food Bank or Food Pantry. You should explain that your on a very tight budget, low income and need help to feed your large needy family. Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Another hunger program that I found was Hunger Task Force, they have some signature programs called summer meals, food for families, stamp out hunger. You can apply for food and donate your time. You can donate online if anyone's looking to do a good deed as well as volunteer for help. This was a great video I found which shows the problems people are facing.

I really feel for you and hope things improve, have you tried the Emergency Food and Shelter Board Program? The program first stated in 1983 and is now represented by the following charities which help run the organizations

- Catholic Charities
- Jewish Federation of North America
- Salvation Army

You can become a member of the program and then apply for some of the hunger initiatives that are available.
