My niece has recently given birth to a bundle of joy. She is a single mother and the father has deserted them completely and she has no income. Any money she has comes from the Government or help from parents and relatives. I am trying to save her some money and recently she made a comment on how expensive diapers and nappies can be. Does anyone know where we can get free nappies or diapers or get them at a very low price.

Having children can be very expensive especially if you are on a low income. Babies can go through nappies very quickly and on average each nappy costs around 20pence. Many people ask how to get free nappies and there are ways to do this. If you look in the right place and qualify for certain benefits if you are on a low income then you may be eligible for this which would help with your finances.

No matter what your earnings are the UK government provide you with a one off benefit in the amount of £190 which is completely tax free. If you can use this money towards the cost of purchasing nappies then you will be able to buy in bulk and get a good price. If you can get the nappies on special offer like buy one get one free you will be getting even more for your money.

There is also a charity called Care Confidential which provides you with help when it comes to raising your child and if you are on a very low income then this can really help you. Once Care Confidential assesses your claim then will notify you whether you have been successful. Payouts usually vary however if you do get money then it can go towards providing more nappies for your child.

If you are not eligible for any benefits or help from charities then there are other ways that you can save money purchasing diapers. There are reusable diapers that you can use and when the item has been used you can just wash them safely in your washing machine and then use them again. If you spend £10 and buy a pack of 3 reusable diapers then you can recycle them and reuse them as long as they last. If you spend £1000 on nappies per year and the reusable ones last for a year then you will be saving approximately £990 which could go towards your child’s savings.

From time to time many coupons and vouchers are available from Huggies and Pampers which usually give you the items for half price. When there are offers such as buy one get one free you need to stock up as much as you can because essentially they have gone down to half price. If you can buy all the nappies for a year during the special offer phase then you can expect to save around £500 a year if you typically spend £1000 a year on these items.

You might even want to consider dropping a brand level and going for a supermarket make nappy which are usually 50% cheaper. The quality may vary however if your child is not affected that much then you can really save money here. Now if you can buy these cheaper diapers when they are on offer you can save even more money. If you spend £1000 on branded nappies and you switched to supermarket brand and purchased them during their special offers then you can save up to £750 a year which again could go on the child’s future.

Overall there are many ways that you can get nappies for free and if you are not eligible then you can save money when you purchase them by taking some notes on the frugal tips provided above. If you spend quite a lot of money and you take some of the tips outlined in this article then you too can save a bundle.
